Hildegard Rath - 1909 - 1994

Born in Wurttemberg, Germany, Hildegard Rath became a painter of landscape, portraits, still lifes, and marine subjects and also a muralist. She went to art school at the Atelier House in Stuttgart, Germany, studying with Adolf Senglaub. She also studied with Otto Manigk in Berlin.
In Germany she had numerous commissions for oil paintings in the 1930s and 1940s. Emigrating to the United States, she became a citizen and settled in King's Point, New York.
From 1949 to 1954, she was Director of Painting at the European School of Fine Arts in New York City and then became a lecturer in art history at the Great Neck Public Schools, 1961-62, and a lecturer on serigraphy at the North Shore Art Center.
Her preferred media are oil, pastel, watercolor and charcoal.
